The Subcommittee on Risk Management provides an opportunity for collaboration concerning best practices in risk management and concentrates on equipping state transportation agencies with tools and strategies to leverage opportunities and address potential threats.Â
This includes aligning risk management with performance metrics to identify factors that may impede or enhance the achievement of established goals.

Purpose
The Subcommittee on Risk Management provides an opportunity for collaboration concerning best practices in risk management and concentrates on equipping state transportation agencies with tools and strategies to leverage opportunities and address potential threats.
Goals
- Serve as the forum to engage subcommittee members on the sharing of ideas and examples of how state transportation agencies are implementing risk management within their organizations.
- Develop needed guidelines, guidance, training, and educational resources to facilitate the implementation of risk management approaches within a state transportation agency.
- Research, develop, and disseminate tools and techniques associated with risk management such as risk analysis, vulnerability assessments, etc.

Membership Guidelines
- State DOTs—Members of the subcommittee can include a member from each state representing each parent committee or their designee.
- Federal Agencies—FHWA, FTA, etc. Serve as a liaison for that agency and approved by the subcommittee co-chairs.
- Association—Members from relevant sister organizations to AASHTO to serve as a liaison that are approved by the subcommittee chair and vice-chair.
- Research and Academic—A person(s) from an academic institution or private company that will serve as a knowledge resource given the work of the subcommittee as deemed appropriate by the subcommittee co-chairs.
