This is the first episode of the target setting workshop series where presenters share target setting methods for safety performance measures covering fatal and serious crashes on all public roads. There are many challenges in in safety performance measurement. This webinar touches on several of them, including worsening performance, worsening targets, aligning targets across DOT plans, coordinating among state and local agencies, and accounting for non-motorized data in addition to automobile crashes. The methods presented in the webinar include targeted reduction, time-series trends, statistical models, and post-hoc adjustment methods. Speakers from Washington State DOT, South Carolina DOT, and Michigan DOT share their methods, tips, and tricks for setting safety targets and overcoming the challenges faced.
