This article describes the financial failures of several highway tunnels in Australia. These tunnels were mostly privately held, but financial disaster resulted in them being taken under public receivership. The research focuses on how the tunnel finances were so insecure, and also suggests ways to avoid similar situations in the future. There is also a compendium of the nine tunnels examined.
